Thai Peanut Marinated Tofu

Thai Peanut Marinated Tofu is absolutely at the top of my recipe box. I’m always trying to experiment in the kitchen and marinated tofu is a favorite food of mine. I started playing with new marinade combinations and dipping sauces and different flavor profiles in an effort to get some more flavor options for my tofu.

The marinade

Experimenting and mixing different flavors can have some amazing results. And is exactly what happened in this Thai Peanut Marinated Tofu recipe.  I mixed a little bit of peanut butter, agave or maple syrup, soy sauce or Tamari and a shot of apple cider vinegar to give it some pop and just a pinch of cayenne and cam up with a marinade worthy of royalty if I do say so myself.

Marinating Tofu is not a art form but sometime the longer it is marinated can be better. Marinated at least 30 minutes but overnight will not hurt the flavor a bit.Surviving on a plant-based diet

Do not be surprised if the Tofu soaks up a lot of the liquid. Just make sure that all the pieces get coated well and pop it in the fridge.

Browning Tofu

Heat up the oil and remember to use a high heat oil like avocado or canola. Avocado oil has a heat point of 500° so it’s a good choice. Pick a pan that is good for frying like stainless steel or cast iron.  Heat up the pan slowly and add tofu. One of the tricks to browning tofu and most foods is to leave them alone.   Make sure to watch the temperature, adjust the heat as needed and wait till it starts to brown. Browned food will automatically release or most times release from the bottom of the pan easily. The pan type is important when browning foods. I would not suggest a non-stick pan. They’re not usually meant to get to high temperature and you really want this to get to a little higher temperature without hurting your cooking utensils. Pick a pan that can with stand some heat.

When the tofu starts to brown, toss it with the pan or you can use a spatula or light tool to flip it. Try to make sure that it’s flipped on more than just two sides. Rotate it around and get it browned up on all sides. It shouldn’t take too long. You do not have to use a lot of oil. Just a very light coat of oil on the bottom of the pan should be all you need to get it browned on all sides and not have it dripping in oil.

Plating it up

Remove browned Tofu to serving dish or platter. This Tofu is so flavorful at this point you almost don’t need the Peanut dipping sauce but  serve it on the side and let everyone decide for themselves.
